Legal disclaimer

Last updated 30 September 2026

Shackled is workshop and field-service management software. This page explains the legal limits on what Shackled is - and isn't - responsible for. It's written in plain English, but it's a genuine legal notice, and it applies to your use of Shackled alongside any separate agreement you have with us.

1. Not professional advice

Nothing in Shackled - including its forms, checklists, reports, calculators (such as the parts markup calculator), payroll classifications, draft invoices and quotes, or incident reporting tool - is legal, financial, accounting, tax, work health and safety, or human resources/industrial relations advice. Shackled is a record-keeping and workflow tool. It does not replace advice from a qualified solicitor, registered tax agent or accountant, work health and safety consultant, or HR/IR professional, and you should get that advice for your own circumstances before relying on anything Shackled produces for a legal, financial, tax, safety or employment decision.

2. Your own compliance obligations

Using Shackled does not, by itself, satisfy any legal obligation your business has. In particular:

  • Employment and pay. Shackled's timesheet and payroll-classification tools (ordinary/overtime/weekend/public holiday hours, pay types) are a calculation aid based on rules you configure. You remain responsible for complying with the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), the applicable modern award or enterprise agreement, and for checking that pay data sent to Xero, QuickBooks or another accounting system is correct before paying anyone.
  • Work health and safety. Shackled's incident/injury/near-miss reporting tool helps you keep a record on file - it does not report anything to WorkSafe Victoria (or any other regulator) on your behalf. Filling it in does not satisfy your own notification duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic), or equivalent legislation in another state or territory - including the duty to phone WorkSafe immediately and give written notice within 48 hours of a notifiable incident. Shackled keeps a submitted report on file indefinitely, but you remain responsible for satisfying any statutory retention period that applies to it (WorkSafe Victoria's own guidance suggests at least 5 years for a Register of Injuries entry).
  • Tax and accounting. Draft invoices, quotes and payroll data sent from Shackled to Xero, QuickBooks or any other accounting system are drafts only, built from the rates and rules you've configured. You, your bookkeeper, or your registered tax agent remain responsible for reviewing, approving and lodging anything with the Australian Taxation Office, and for the accuracy of GST, BAS and other tax reporting.
  • Privacy. If your business collects personal information about your customers or employees using Shackled, you are the entity responsible for complying with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (or an applicable state privacy law) in respect of that information, including having your own privacy policy for your customers and staff.

3. No warranty

Shackled is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of defects, or that any data, calculation, report or draft document it produces is accurate, complete or fit for a particular purpose. You should independently check anything Shackled produces before relying on it, particularly figures used for pay, invoicing, tax or safety compliance.

4. Australian Consumer Law

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)). Nothing in this disclaimer excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that the law says can't be excluded, restricted or modified. Where our liability for a breach of a guarantee that can't be excluded may lawfully be limited, our liability is limited, at our option, to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject to section 4 above, Shackled and its operator are not liable for any indirect, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data or business opportunity, arising from your use of (or inability to use) Shackled - including loss arising from a third-party service Shackled connects to (see section 6), an inaccurate calculation, or downtime.

6. Third-party services

Shackled connects to third-party services chosen or authorised by you - such as Xero, QuickBooks, Square, and a vehicle registration lookup provider - and runs on third-party infrastructure (Supabase, Vercel) and email delivery (Resend). We aren't responsible for the availability, accuracy, security, pricing or conduct of these third parties, or for changes they make to their own services. Your use of each of them is also subject to that provider's own terms and privacy policy.

7. Changes to this disclaimer

We may update this disclaimer from time to time as Shackled changes. The version shown on this page is the one currently in effect.

8. Governing law

This disclaimer is governed by the law of Victoria, Australia.
