Terms of Service
Last updated October 2026
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
1.1 Shackled is workshop management software provided by Shackled.
1.2 These terms are an agreement between us and the business that signs up to use Shackled ("you", "your workshop"). The person who signs up confirms they have authority to bind that business.
1.3 By ticking "I agree" at sign-up, or by using Shackled, you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Your account and your team
2.1 You are responsible for everyone you invite to your Shackled account and what they do in it, including setting their roles and permissions.
2.2 Each person must have their own login. Keep passwords and sign-in codes private, and tell us straight away at info@shackled.com.au if you think an account has been misused.
2.3 You can turn on two-step sign-in for your team in Settings → Security. We recommend it.
3. Free trial, subscription and payment
3.1 A new workshop gets a free trial of 30 days. No payment details are needed to start.
3.2 After the trial, Shackled is charged per active team member, per month, at the price shown on the Billing page when you subscribe plus GST. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
3.3 Your subscription renews each month until cancelled. The number of team members billed follows the active people in your account.
3.4 If the trial ends without a subscription, your account is locked after 3 days' grace until you subscribe. Your data is kept.
3.5 If a payment fails, we email you straight away and again after 3 days. If it is still unpaid after 6 days, your account becomes read-only (you can see everything but not save changes) until payment is made.
3.6 We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email. The change applies from your next renewal after the notice period.
3.7 Refunds: we do not refund part months, except where required by the Australian Consumer Law.
4. Cancelling
4.1 You can cancel at any time from Settings → Billing. Access continues until the end of the period already paid for.
4.2 After cancelling you can ask us for an export of your records within 30 days. After that we may delete your data, as set out in the Privacy Policy.
5. Your data
5.1 Everything your workshop puts into Shackled — customers, assets, jobs, quotes, forms, staff records, files and photos — belongs to you.
5.2 You give us permission to store, process and copy your data only as needed to run Shackled for you, keep it secure and backed up, and give support.
5.3 You are responsible for having the right to put personal information into Shackled (for example, about your staff and customers) and for telling those people how it is used, as your own privacy obligations require.
5.4 Shackled support only looks inside your account when your Owner/Admin has allowed it in Settings → Support access (for up to 7 days). Every section we open is recorded and visible to you. HR records are never shown to support.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use Shackled for anything unlawful, or to store information you have no right to hold
- try to access another workshop's data, test our security without written permission, or overload the service
- copy, resell or reverse-engineer Shackled
- upload viruses or harmful files
We may suspend an account that breaks these rules, puts other workshops at risk or has not been paid. We will tell you why unless the law or an urgent security risk prevents it.
7. Connected services
7.1 Shackled can connect to services you choose, such as Xero. Your use of those services is under their own terms.
7.2 Shackled only ever sends drafts to Xero (invoices, quotes, timesheets, leave). Your office reviews and approves them in Xero. Shackled never approves an invoice, sends it to your customer or pays anyone. This has been a conscious design choice to keep software and accounting integrated but separate.
7.3 The rego lookup and AI features use outside providers, as described in the Privacy Policy. AI suggestions must be checked by a person before being relied on.
8. Payroll, awards, safety and legal content
8.1 Timesheet calculations, overtime splits, award and pay-type settings, leave balances, contract templates, policies and safety forms are tools to help you. They are based on the settings you enter and are not legal, payroll, tax or safety advice.
8.2 You are responsible for checking that pay, leave, contracts, safe work method statements and incident reports meet the law and your awards before relying on them. See also our Legal disclaimer.
9. Availability and changes
9.1 We aim to keep Shackled available at all times but do not promise it will be uninterrupted. Planned maintenance will be kept short and, where we can, outside business hours.
9.2 Offline mode saves changes on the device until signal returns. Changes not yet synced can be lost if the app's data is cleared from the device.
9.3 We improve Shackled regularly. We will not remove a major feature you rely on without reasonable notice.
10. Liability
10.1 Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded.
10.2 To the extent the law allows, our total liability is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect loss such as lost profits or lost data you could have backed up.
11. Ending these terms
Either of us may end this agreement: you by cancelling; us with 30 days' notice, or straight away if you seriously breach these terms.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will email your Owner/Admin at least 30 days before a change that affects you takes effect, and ask you to accept the new version when you next sign in.
13. General
13.1 These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.
